Welcome to the forums! I sure hope Jeffersons in general and War Nickels in particular wake up in '04. I think the proof '42 is a good one also as it is the only proof war nickel.

another that is starting to move is silver Roosevelts

If you're going to pay $50 for a war nickel you would be well advised to choose a different war.

    Welcome to the boards.

Circulated war nickels are absurdly cheap too. Most go for less than melt value
and the high grade examples are scarce yet command no premium. There are
    also several highly desirable varieties.

Welcome to the Boards. If you can survive the innauguration, I think you'll enjoy it. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, we have a lot of wallflowers who are real reluctant to speak up.image

Appalachian hoard war nickels go for much higher than that because they are so darn good looking!

I'm partial to the '43-D. Why do my hoarding tendencies seem to favor the nickel isuues? Hmmm....

Hmmm..........I have rolls and rolls of these things I bought simply as circulated silver. I think I paid around 7 cents apiece for them several years ago.

Should I go through them and see if they actually have any numismatic value? I doubt any of them grade better than VF.

Personally, I think they are ugly.

I'd like to have a few of those sets like JohnZ pictured. What's the going price for those sets? I don't need them graded just BU - and not dipped. Any sellers PM me and include S/H. Also interested in some raw BU other dates. This kind of went with the topic, so no flames please -- and HAPPY New Year to everyone.

I don't know how much, probably a couple of bucks. Circulating counterfeits (the uglier the better) are the only US federal stuff that I collect. Sometime I'll post a pic of my Morgan dollar in brass.

I got that one in an estate auction in Western Massachusettes last year. The guy had boxes full of coins - everything from slabs to proof sets, liteside and dark. I didn't even see the nickels until I got to the bottom of one of the boxes - a pleasant surprise.

And the grade doesn't even matter, the type plastic is what is important.
