Tired of local dealer !!

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and I need some help. My local dealer keeps giving me the run around(tells me one thing one day then soething else the next) I have decided to spend a lot less money at his establishment. I realize that i may not spend a lot of money each year ($2000-$3000) but I feel that he continues to give me the run around. So my question to all of the people on the forum is, Does anyone know any reputable dealers in the Memphis, TN area ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

  • For example 3 days ago I go in there and ask him if he has $100 face value in junk silver he tells me sure and come back tomorrow. So I wait and go back yesterday he tells me that he has been busy and has about $50 of it done so come back tomorrow(12-24) and it will be done. I go back today and he says that he has gone through most of his stuff and throws on the counter $4.50 face value and states thats all he has right now. Now I don't understand how you have $50 face done one day then the next only $4.50. So needless to say I am frustrated with his lying(as it appears) to me. So now he says check back after the 1st of the year Yeah Right ! Am I just angry over this for no reason or would you be frustrated with the situation as well ?

Sounds like you motivated him to go through his junk silver and he decided it wasn't so junky after all.

I don't believe I saw anything here that suggests rudeness to the newbie.

I do believe the thought to be true; that you encouraged him to look through what he initially felt to be junk, and he re-evaluated his opinion of it.

  • You should be paying around four times face for silver right now and it should contain Franklins, Kennedy’s, Washington’s, Roosevelt’s and maybe a few mercury’s. Any reputable dealer will be able to help.

Need any more help after that, just come back with a question and I or someone else here will help you...Ken
  • Thanks for the advice Ksteelheader.

The one thing that can really get old for me is when any collector constantly pumps me over and over again for information, NEVER buys anything and then goes off and buys from others. You really get on my wrong side when you come back to me with your purchases and ask me how you with your purchases.

Another guy was constantly on my back because I would not sell him choice coins at Blue Sheet bid. He would come back with coins that he said bought at Blue Sheet bid and baraid me about it. I would ask him if he wanted sell any of the bargains he found at a profit. He never did. Finally I told him that he was obviously a better buyer than I, and that I really did not need to hear about what a bad person I was because I could sell coins at Blue Sheet bid. Needless to say I did not miss his visits.

  • Bill,
I realize people are in buisness to make money. In the case in which I am talking about I ALWAYS buy when I come in and NEVER stay in his store and pump him for info or take up his time, because I realize that his time is valuable however to me mine is more valuable. So that is why I feel that way about him.
  • Welcome aboard and Merry Christmas! Hope you'll stick around. Lucy wasn't being mean or rude. You have to have a sense of humor here. Also, once you get to know the various board members, you'll understand a lot of the humor better. image

Yes, if you buying coins from him, he was WAY off base. You don't need to buy something every time you see me. I won't always have something you need. It's just when it becomes very obvious that you are just using me. That's when I get tired. And when you complain that my prices are not cheap enough ALL the time, never buy anything and expect to buy my coins at the "blind bid" after you have looked at them, I've got too many other things to do that are more important.

BTW If a collector spends $1,500 to $2,000 a year with me, you are VERY welcome at my table.

  • Thanks Bill, if I am in your area then it looks like I need to go by the store to deal with someone who is honest.
  • I "almost" always buy something when I visit my local dealer. However, if "BS" was gold, then I could afford to buy a lot more at times......Ken

    Lucy,

Given the quality of the Frankies in your collection, I dare say that you have paid some pretty strong prices for them. Blue Sheet bids are adjusted to cover for poorest examples of the coins in certain holders. It's OK to counter my prices, but don't make references to my genetic origins (i.e. you are an SOB) when I don't accept your very low ball offers. No one should have to put up with that, especially from someone who never buys anything.

Believe me when you deal with the public you can hear this stuff now and then.
