Ebay prices on PCGS slabbed circulated $20 Liberty gold coins were quite reasonable this morning.

This is what I picked up for $426.70.

That's a nice coin for a middle grade $20 gold from the 1880s. Most of the time they are all chopped up and like the devil. image Still I think that the collector interest in these is pretty limited. Everybody wants Mint State coins. Hence you can purchase them at reasonable levels.

If I were seller on this piece I would not be jumping for joy. After paying the fees, he did not get much more than bullion for this coin.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Bill: You hit in right on the head. Yes, collector interest is indeed limited in this area. Collectors prefer at least a mint state or in the alternative, a high AU coin.

But for collectors who want to stick within a budget and pick up some gold, this is the way to go. Quite frankly, I prefer type II $20 gold but pickings are very slim these days.
