I don't know my toning, but I think it looks messed with. (I could be wrong, and I am sure others will let us know.)

Far too splotchy... looks like chemicals were poured on it, then possibly heated.

Hard to tell from the photo. It could be real but that type of blue can result from the coin being soaked in an ammonia solution.

I have several '76's that look just like that. They were in a plastic tube, since 76, too.

I have seen NT that doesn't look that different, so I'll say maybe. I kind of like itimage

I've seen them with red and blue like the 1942 Proof that is pictured above, but I don't recall seeing one combined with the brown color that is on the 1925-S cent. Yes the color is "manufactured," but don't be surprised if you see more of it. The demand for toned coins has gone nuts, and a lot of coins that once were decent pieces are going to be ruined because of it. image

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
    • What does it matter how it toned, as long as an acetone dip doesnt remove it, I see no problem!

Artificially toned, IMHO...I have a roll of R&B UNC 1935-S 1C. I guess I'll put them in the oven @ about 325 degrees for awhile; then I'll have 50 just like this one to sell on EBAY.

Probably AT but I think it's nice.

    • To me that coin looks like a lightly circulated piece that has been cleaned and artificially toned
    • I think the second to last sentence in the item description says it all. "If this coin was certified it would sell for all the money!" This is a quote from the seller. However it is an accurate description of the toned coin market today, at least in the mind of newbie's and snake oil salesmen. image

I have seen them similar - but not as vibrant on coins that were cleaned long ago

result similar - bodybag for cleaning or questionable color
