Why don't nobody use no half dollars?

What's your take? Banks have em. Cash registers have holes for em. But the half dollar is nearly GONE in my experience.

What's going on?

I frequently use them. It's fun to put them in to circulation. I'm sure most just end up getting dumped at the bank and right back out of circulation, though.

if nobody used no half dollars, don't the negatives cancel, and somebody uses some half dollars?

or would that mean that nobody used any half dollars?

meaning that there wasn't anybody who didn't use any half dollars?

I'm sure somebody uses lots of half dollars, and there's got to be somebody who has never used a half dollar.

There too large and heavy to use for every day commerce. Really they should be discontinued. I like halfs, and gettin them from the bank on occasion to pass around, but still believe its a useless denomination.

Even the casino's have cut back on use of the half dollar, as it is easier for them to use gaming tokens. This enables them to keep less actual money tied up by having to stock loose change for transactions.

It's obvious, the vending machine companies never used them. And the half dollar could be a very good coin to use in circulation for vending machines. At least here in the south they would be used far more than a dollar coin. Because of inflation diluting the value of coins and currency, it would seem more prudent to drop the cent and force vending machines to accept half dollars. It isn't too hard to carry them around. After all, a half dollar or 2 in most cases would get you whatever you needed from a vending machine. Much better than having lots of cents around, miscellaneous nickels and dimes and quarters which collectively would be more burdensome than a reintroduced half dollar.

Russ, wanna really have some fun? Get a sh_t-load of dateless buffs and $2s. Put the buffs in parking meters and spend the deuces. It'll drive the local dealers nuts.

Too big, too heavy and too many people who don't collect coins think they are valuable or have silver in them. You often see them in non-collector hoards of coins.

Back in the pre-1964 days when have dollars DID circulate, they had a lot more buying power.

I thought almost everyone did use no half dollars. Where are you seeing them in real use?

I've wondered where they are also. They used to be common in change.
  • Because 50 cents doesn't buy much anymore...and parking meters, vending machines, and laundromats don't take them...so why bother carrying them around.

Plus...we haven't had a decent half dollar since the Walking Libertyimageimageimageimage
  • Obviously, nobody don't know no better not to never use no half dollars.

  • You know, I've never really tried to carry any around with me. It doesn't seem like they're that big, where the size would be prohibitive. Maybe I'll try it sometime...

I have to agree I think the size of them has to be a factor. Besides what else can you do with Kennedy halves besides spend them??image

Both Kennedies and Ikes make excellent targets. You can see them from a good distance.

I bought a coffee using an Ike and two kennedies today. I love the big heavy change, but they make for bad bedfellows when I want to wash my car.
