Opinions on this coin...

Any opinions on this Standing Liberty Quarter? Looks like it could be FH.

Thanks for any opinions.

    Where is the coin?

I would say 90% FH, MS61, great coin from a good seller. Go for it!
  • Thanks, I would love that grade. Anyone else with an opinion?

That's a really choice AU 58 SLQ that you won on EBay. There is too much rub on her forward leg to classify for an MS 61. The head could be called full, as there is an ear hole, but the hairline seems a tad weak. Congrats on winning a nice coin. At a fair price I might add.

Yes, it's a 90% full head, a near miss. The coin is an AU-58, but this type of coin does end up in MS-61 and 62 holders.

It's a decent piece if you are looking for attractive, medium quality material.

BTW the services do recognize that an AU Standing Lib can have a full head. I've handled a couple of them.

    I agree.
  • As much as I can tell from a photo, it looks pretty decent...

I think you could do a lot worse for the price.

  • Thanks to everyone for their input. I thought this was a good price and looked better than the other raw coins listed as BU, even by the same seller. I do like the look of these quarters, and this will be my first one. Hopefully I can add others in the near future.

It looks like an Au-58 to me also, nice strong head detail and almost full but not FH.

PCGS designates FH in grades Au-50 and higher!

I would grade it lower--AU55, maybe 53. Head looks close but not full. Regardless, a nice buy at that price!

  • Curious why no one else put a bid on this though. Glad no one said it looked clean, fake, etc. I guess sometimes even I get lucky and the snipers don't get me. :-)

The answer: There is no immediate upside. You can't be assured that it will get a high slab grade. So your main competition are real collectors who may or may not have seen it or want it. With coins like this you hold then for a few years and then might get to make a "for sure" profit.

It's what I've done for years with some coins. The returns are better than or equal to a bank account, but the bonus is you enjoyed the coin! Relax!

Nice coin, from a good seller. I've purchased from them over Ebay and in person, and always been pleased.

I like it as a AU58...can't see any hairlines, however, there appears to be some light friction on the knee which is quite common for this series. A grade of MS61 would not surprise me. Congrats...its a keeper.
