Deferring to the slab experts here.....

I've got an 1893 Maundy Set all slabbed in NGC holders.
1d: MS-66
2d: MS-67
3d: MS-66
4d: MS-67

Some of these are Top Pop stuff, and some nearly so. The big question is: Does anyone actually care? I mean, Maundy is Maundy, right? They are supposed to be high grade and attractive. Each coin is strikingly toned, and if you ask me, the set would be worth more (in my mind) if it were still in it's original box (at least that's how I'd rather see the coins). Are people actually paying premiums for numbers on the plastic?

Whatcha think?

Methinks, gradually more and more of a premium will be built in on these slabbed Maundy sets. 80% of the sets which I've seen raw in the leather/silk? cases are severely mishandled, and as such are scarcely worth mounting for jewelry.

I bought a double set (raw) about 4 years ago which I used in trade maybe a year ago on a tanner (it traded for $300). It was a 1901 / 1905 set with the leather case and a placename in gilt on the top cover. Nice medium blue/green/purple toning but not too dark like many are.

If I were looking, I'd lean more toward a 67+ qualilty set with frosty centers and rainbow peripheries, but good luck finding that.....

I guess the one true test will be to put it on eBay and see who wants it and how bad. image

The title should read, 1893 MONSTER TONED MEGA-GEM MAUNDY SET.....

Use "Monster toned" prolifically throughout.....spam the description with, "greattoning wishes he had this one to sell"!! imageimage

I think high end sets, like the one you have, are tougher to get than most people think. I would keep it for now. Laugh at my prediction, but the day will come when a set like that will bring over $1,000.

I hear the laughter already... image

Hey, Bill, wanna cause some heart attacks just before Christmas? How about posting that on the Registry Forum with some appropriate Monty-Pythonesque commentary about what we Darksiders think of their sl@bs!! imageimageimage

A quick primer on how to properly market and sell a coin on ebay follows...
    _________________________________________________________________________
A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL SUPER UNC VICTORIA VEILED HEAD MAUNDY SET OF 1893, WITH STUNNING GODZILLA MONSTER TONING.
GRADED MS66, BUT SLAB COMPANIES DON'T UNDERSTAND A TRUE GEM. THIS IS CLOSER TO MS-69+++. I'VE NEVER SEEN A MAUNDY SET AS GOOD AS THIS IN THE PAST 30 YEARS.

This set is THE one-in-a-million NATURALLY TONED survivor that never saw a fingerprint or a dash of salty air and is MEGARARE THUS. The coins are FDC - no rub, no prints, no contact marks and they have ultra crisp strikes that are better than any maundy set I've ever seen.

Book UNC gives £100 for this, but I feel that this comes a long way short of the street value of this coin in this condition as no doubt maundy experts will agree. I estimate that there are probably less than 2 sets extant with this amount of color and no problem surfaces this has - it's even better than the MS-68 I listed last week! I dont feel that you will EVER see a better Veiled Head maundy set than this at any price, ever in the history of the universe. Thus this lovely and SUPER ULTRA PAINFULLY RARE item starts at ONLY £250 (US$450) or HAVE A RESTFUL SLEEP TONIGHT AND BUY NOW FOR A MERE £325 (US$585). DON'T LET THIS SUPER RARE TERRA-gem SET GET AWAY!

Wybrit - You have to type "L@@K" in the title!image

Cosmic - A picture is worth a thousand words, but do you have to use such naughty words?
