I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this Morgan. What do you think?

1881S NGC 68

Current: $2,300 • "Next" Bid: $2,350

What do you think of it?

I think the obverse strike looks a little weak for the grade of MS68.

Way out of reach for me, but its not my money, so GO FOR IT!

That sure is a beauty!

Placid

If you can return it without penalty if you want to.

ColonialCoinUnion

I think it looks good and I don't see the weakness noted above. On the other hand, the last Morgan I bought was an 1892 in Brilliant Uncirculated from Bowers and Ruddy Galleries RCR #22 in 1975 for $59.

Placid

Hereis another 68 if you missed that one.

that's a beautiful coin, but I could never afford to buy from a dealer of that stature.

JMOORE

Big price difference too

NGC vs PCGS

KollectorKing

For the same amount of $$, you'd get a RARE Morgan (MS 93-CC) in all condition, not a COMMON coin in RARE condition

DennisH

Any common S-mint Morgan in MS68 is, IMO, a terrible longterm use of resources.

kieferscoins

Pass. Is there a reason why you would pick a 68 over a 66 (and save tons of money?)

JMOORE

I just LIKED the way the coin looked.

But I saved my ammo and did not pull the trigger

Jim

jbsteven

sorry Russ but the strike is full.

nice looking coin and the price is right on at $2400

clw54

According to the PCGS Price Guide, an MS66 of the same date goes for $300. An MS64 is $52.

JMOORE

Kind of like a 1953-S MS66 FBL Franklin for $50,000 or a MS65 for $400 huh?

BigE

Whats true about this post is that if you find what you want, specialize in it, and stick to it for a while, you can absolululey discern the difference------------------------------BigE

XpipedreamR

I wouldn't buy it for anywhere near that price. Save your $$$.

kyleknap

I'm a big fan of MS68's.....but PCGS has much stricter standards as far as the difference between a 67/68. IMO it is more than worth it to put up a little extra cash for a PCGS coin, which will have a significantly higher resale value later.

Sharp piece Kyle!...

pierre

weak for the grade and a pretty common date......pass

SDCollector

Rare grade vs. rare coin (for example, this high grade 81-S vs. a low grade 93-S). I'd pick the 93-S everytime.
