Buffalo Commems - Should I get them slabbed?

I currently own a 2001 Buffalo Dollar 2 Coin Set (Uncirc. & Proof Dollar together). I am wondering if I should break up the set and have them slabbed by PCGS or if I should keep them together in the original issue Mint Box. Would the coins be better off sealed in a PCGS holder in the long run? Your professional opinions would be greatly appreciated...

If they're just for your collection, I would leave them in the mint packaging.

Why slab them? You know you will most likely get a 69, maybe a 68, if unlucky. I've only seen one 70. Guess who?

I agree with Xpipe, they'll most likely grade MS69 by PCGS or NGC. I would guess in the long run they will trade higher in their original packaging in good shape than in a slab.

To me it never makes sense to slab modern commemoratives, unless you are going to sell them. I much prefer these coins just as they were issued from the mint with the original boxes and papers.

Even if you are going to sell them, bear in mind that you are looking at two markets. One is the "old time collector" who likes the sets in the mint boxes. The other is the investor and the registry collector who are looking for certified higher than normal grades. If your coin comes back in a lower than "investment or registry grade" it's in never-never land. It will be hard to sell and will sell for a discounted price.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
