  • The coin is a rarity 3............you seem to have paid current market for it. For investment
grade coins, that is OK most of the time. They come nice, so it is good you did not
settle for a 65 grade coin. I think there is now enough nice California gold that it will
be a good investment in just a couple short years.

Fact #1 Well I was an underbidder at $726 and I already have one in MS-66 in the 25c oct. So at most, your winning price is $84 more than my bid.

Fact #2 Your price in another way of looking at it was barely more than 10% more than mine.

Fact #3 This coin has a MS-66 pop of 22 with a single one in MS-67.

Fact #4 There was another bidder with a feedback of 1 that bid $800. I do not know that bidder.

Fact #5 I have some comparables to show you which will be illustrative of valuation.

Fact #6 The coin I bought is a R-4 and there is 11 in MS-66 and none finer. But my coin does not come as nice as your coin. I valued the BG-808 about $60 more than the $726 I bid on your coin hence the $785 price I paid.

    Fact #7 More to follow.

Opinion #1 That bidder might have been a red herring by another ebayer to scare away other bidders as opposed to the seller playing games which I doubt was the case. Look at the timing of the bid.

Opinion #2 : This coin is a prooflike in appearance with nice cameo contrast.

    Opinion #3 More to follow

Opinion #4 Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten! Yours is a quality coin.

Opinion #5 $810 will seem real cheap within a year or two!

At first glance I thought I saw a nasty rim ding... then I saw they were in a pattern.

  • Wayne,
When I consider what my 93-s dollars have brought over the years,
pretty sad. The last slabbed vf-35 went out for $1400.........sold a nice
    raw vf-30+ for $1600..........had a hard time getting $3500 for a slabbed
PGCS XF 40.............must have had 20 over the last 10 years. One in
the last two years. Very few dollar sets being offered to me anymore,
and I'm in Montana. And run a lot of adds. So the price for your coin
seems sky high, but try to find another?
    Rusty
  • sorry about the toes on the bidding thing i put 1200 on it and waited
that's how i bid the only way
thanks for the input a lesser guy wouldn't have answered i hope we can get past this

Wayne: I think you misunderstood my postings. The part about the "truth" or the "giving it to you gently" was in fact part of my dry humor! I would have never said that in a public forum if I really thought you overpaid for the coin!!! image

I don't think you got a bad deal. I was not as much of a motivated buyer as you were. I already have a MS-66 in my collection and did not absolutely have to have another one.

In this market an extra $80 or so is no big deal anymore. You will be thrilled with this coin as it will be a coin to be proud of. $810 is CHEAP for a pop 22 coin with only 1 finer. Wait until demand picks up some more. But don't make the mistake of selling it before the 30-40 years time frame!!

  • like i miss spelled before i feel honored to have bid with you a few bucks isn't the point
it's the history behind them i have very few older coins so it's nice to know
a real collector is with this type of coin
and if it's good great if not o well you can't take it with you
    try as we might
  • wayneme

I don't know anything about the coin you listed but one thing to ask yourself about how much you paid for the coin.

If you were to sell the coin in 1 year or 20 years from now and let's say you get $500 for it. Would the $300 you "lost" on the coin be worth the value to you as a collector in owning the coin for the collecting enjoyment. To me collecting coins is a hobby and all hobbies cost money to participate.

    hope this helps you
  • Ten years down the road you will be sorry you didn't buy 5 more at that price.
Nice type coins will always be a good investment image

Wayne, nice coin! Did you look at the recent Jay Roe B&M auction for prices realized? mike image

  • It sounds like you didn't pay too much. If you had bid less you probably wouldn't have won that coin. It looks way better than the 65 Heritage coin. I really love that proof like look.

If someone else was willing to pay more then you did not pay too much.
