Getting into coin shows for free

I'm probably going to get banned for this, and ridiculed.

I scan garbage cans outside the shows at the end of the first day and usually find a badge someone has discarded.

No you won't get ridiculed. We all pick through trash to save a $2 admission. (ha ha ha!)

I always look for lunch there too, so I don't have to leave the show.

    alarm clock ... $5.00

getting caught by the cops, and posting bail .... $175.00

being able to say i attepted to steal a discarded badge to sneak into a coin show to save 1.00 admission... priceless.

for somethings in life theres cash , but for the rest there is stupidity.

stupidity... excepted in more places under the sun

I've never been to a show that charged admission to the public. Seems a rather counterproductive way of attracting business (not!)
I thought most shows made their money of the table fees charged to the dealers.

Of course, if the admission fee included a raffle entry to a drawing for a nice gold coin or similar sweet "door prize", it would be OK. (To pay the fee, I mean, not dumpster-dive for it.)

Using a recycled badge with somebody else's name on it might be embarrassing, if that somebody else is a lowlife! ("Oh, so you're George so-and-so, huh? You cheated me on eBay, you @#*% bum!")

My girlfriend and I get into the Long Beach show free all the time (they charge 6 bucks without a discount coupon) and we don't have to go dumpster diving to do it either.

Going into a show for free? Huh?

The shows don't dare ask me to go to a show for free. If they want me they pay me to go! Ususally I get $20 or so as an incentive to go. They like to see me there. Boy, you guys haven't learned the real art of getting the promotors to beg you to come!

You really do this Mikey? Are you the same type of person who takes 20 pieces of candy from the dealers table and dosen't even look at one coin?

I guess I have not been to a show that charged yet. All of the ones I have gone to are free admission and some have a drawing for a coin as well. (No I don't win, would never be that lucky)

Dumpster diving has been known to produce a better quality meal than the "left over from last week's Dog Show" $5.00 hot dog.

Geez, if they charge $5 to get in, just pay it. Somebody will have state quarters in sample slabs. Just take twenty of them and you'll break even.

I though I was at rock bottom when I used to hop the fence to gain entry to the local harness racing facility - saving $3, but Mikey has me beat!

I saved $4. It's the principle and being resourceful. My Mom would be proud, screw the rest of you self-righteous bas*ards.

A buyer paying for show admission must be a west coast thing (though we pay tolls on the roads). I've never been to a show that charges admission.

A man at the local Santa Clara coin show was infected with the AIDS virus after he was stuck in the finger with a disposed needle while scavaging thru a dumpster looking for a free pass to the show....

A family member was quoted as saying "while it's a tragedy this happened I have to give him credit for trying to save 5 dollars".

The unidentified man did not realize that the dumpster was a frequent hangout for drug dealers and there customers.
    Toast on
