Does anyone use the Fuji Finepix S5000?

I was wondering if anyone uses the Fuji Finepix S5000 digital camera for coin pictures? It seems to have great features especially for the price. I have looked at a few review sites and it seems to get decent but not spectacular reviews. I am looking for a camera that will allow me to print pictures from my computer and also take close up pictures of coins. I did a search here and it seems that some people use Olympus, Nikon, and Sony Mavica amongst others. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I am on a limited budget of about a $300 maximum.

I too am looking for a new camera in the $300 price range. The only problem is the cameras I want list for quite a bit more. Are there any web sites that compare model numbers and features?

The Olympus C 5050 Zoom is well recommended but lists for over $500. Is there a cheaper model that has the same optics and can take great photos of coin but has less features? I don't need to take movies for example.

The Nikon Coolpix 4500 is often recommended. Again are there cheaper models that take exactly as good coin photos?

Some of you have the Sony Mavica. I'm not sure which model you have or recommend.

I haven't heard, one way or the other, about Fuji cameras. Any first hand coin photo experience with them?

Take a look here. This particular page is a search for Fuji but you can plug in other brands, select (on the left hand side), and do a compare.

I have the Fuji FinePix 4800Zoom and a Canon PowerShot G2. The Fuji is much simpler and as such, is my favorite! I'm sure as I learn the Canon though, it will find a niche in my hobbies too. Dave

A word of advice if I may, one of the most important things to consider is the camera's macro function. A lot of the less expensive ones require that you purchase a macro lense seperate and a device to connect it to the camera. These do not fit well, are expensive (lense) and will not give you the crispness of a camera with a built in macro function of high quality. In other words the attachement jiggles the lense. You may end up paying almost the same for the attachements and camera as you would if you just purchased a more expensive camera with a good macro.

You might initially like the camera but you will discover that you can never get the kind of quality that you could if you spent another $200.
I learned this lesson the hard way.

I purchased a Fuji Finepix 3800 for just about $300.00 about a year ago. I knew nothing about digital cameras, and was intimidated by the whole subject. In short, this camera was very quick to learn how to use, works very well in macro for coins, and I am very happy with it. It is very light weight, and I like the design. A sample of it's work:

Its predecessors were the 950 and 995... they are basically the same, but the 4500 has larger pictures and probably a few more features... still the same great macro, and much cheaper for the 950 and 995.
