Opinion of NNC

NNC is a new grading company that claims to grade as conservatively as PCGS and NGC, but at a lower cost and much faster. They are based in Birmingham, MI. Here is a sample of one that is for sale on eBay: 1883-S MORGAN DOLLAR NNC XF-45. I think this is part of the reason PCGS is trying to improve their turnaround time. However, I believe NNC overgrades. I would have graded their XF45 as only VF25.

Be honest... PCGS couldn't give a crap about anyone except NGC or possibly ANACS...

Not at the moment, but perhaps in the future. Sure, NNC is a joke right now. However, this only goes to show that there are people out there willing to start a company to challenge the big players, i.e., PCGS and NGC, at their own game. I think it was a wise business decision for PCGS to add additional graders and other support people to improve their turnaround time. People are generally getting frustrated, and are starting to look elsewhere.

When it comes to morgan dollars, you can't grade them without seeing the reverse.
If it looks as I suspect, this dollar could be in an NGC XF 40 holder.

Placid's morgan looks like a completely different coin when compared to the NNC morgan. image

Does PCGS seem intimidated by years of PCI, AGC, NTC, SEGS, etc?

Money talks. Those who have valuable coins that aren't damaged are only going to the best...

Really, don't take this joke with a grain of salt...

If you are going to start a grading service today you need to quickly differentiate yourself from the mass of low-end slab services that are popping up like weeds. The coin in question here is clearly not the way to do it.

Here is a more recent sample. I believe this one is correctly graded as VF20, cleaned, so perhaps they are improving:

*1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar NNC VF-20.

That's not a VF 20 either...lines aren't clear enough in eagle's right wing...hair and cotton bolls too worn ...cotton leaves wayyy too blended.
those guys need to get a copy of the ANA grading guide or at least Photograde...

I'll bet the only thing that held Placid's Morgan down to 45 was the amount of luster...details look like a lock 50 to me.

Okay, you could argue that she only grades F15, cleaned. The jury is still out on the accuracy of NNC's grading, so you be the judge.
