Guess the grade fun...early proof Washington.

Just a little fun. This one is a new arrival, and the toning on these coins usually sucks. This one is slightly hazy like most, but has some color. The marks on the lower reverse left of the tail are on the holder. It is in PCGS plastic. Grade to be revealed later.

How many hairlines?

I like the coin... not sure that my opinion of the grade would be all that helpful. I say that because I like to tilt proof coins to check for hairlines and other issues.

DHeath · November 10, 2003 10:23AM

It isn't bad. Two TINY quarter inchers, one in the obverse left field and one above the date. The toning hides them well enough you need a 10x to spot them.

Very clean, few marks, strong strike, good luster, and some original toning. PR66?

Nice coins ... '36-39 proofs are a bear in better than PR-65 ... I like that look, and with the minimal hairlines you describe, I'll go PR-66.

It looks very nice. I want to say 67 but for some reason I think it is 66.

Thanks all for participating. Looking at the obverse pic, there is a very fine hairline running from the U in trust to the base of the one. The other one is from the base of the L in liberty headed south. Neither is very bothersome. The coin is in a 65 holder. The reverse is hairline free. I like the look of this coin, and in hand like it as a 66. There is some cameo visible under the toning. I'm glad you folks did too.

I'll select something appropriate from the lower drawer.

To be fair, you should have put some 10x pics of the hairlines up!
