i have one with similar color sans the yellow that i found in a misc. box at a country auction. the high points have a bit of friction/rub but it looks nice. gold is a common color, so i see no reason why it wouldn't be genuine. of course, i've been wrong before!!
TTT. I will elaborate how I feel about this coin. I will also admit I'm not up on how clad proofs tone. But the way that blue, and orange for that matter is all splotchy and looks like it's been put on with an eye-dropper, both sides looking similar.... Even if this coin is slabbed by one of the top services, I wouldn't be a buyer of this coin as an original toned clad proof.
Of course it's not a coin that's on my watch list either to be perfectly honest.
Please... Save The Stories, Just Answer My Questions, And Tell Me How Much!!!!!
Only two choices, I have to decide if it was either 100% "natural" (whatever that is -) or it was baked in an oven?
what if it was (mis)- stored in someone's garage or hot attic for a couple years?
what if someone had it in an envelope in the laundry room for a couple months?
I have no idea what the details of this coin's history might be, can say that it was not stored in a manner that prevents toning.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's less than half "natural" (whatever that means) but not 100% "fake insta-bake" looking, provided that's a silver one. Not a big fan of the look, and I don't think the top grading companies will like it much either. could be wrong, though, there's always a first time
OK, I'm wrong and the slab is right....now somebody tell me HOW the coin toned NATURALLY like that????? I await your expert comments....ATATATATATATATATATATATATATAT

Ok I see how you & stman are. Textile toning with toning breaks from an original unsearched mint bag which laid unopened in the treasury vaults since the mid 1970's then.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
Yeah I think I finally got it stman. I'm starting to like this junk. Much more prettier than dull drab ORIGINAL material. As long as it's pretty and I like it who cares if it's real or AT. I bet I probably know who graded it too. Remember that guy that said AT was ok and we should look for the good in all coins instead of being so negative? A true L@@K!! MONSTER RAINBOW.

YUP, he went back grading for them. Of course remember who said it wasn't the same person we were talking about?

<<<Of course remember who said it wasn't the same person we were talking about?>>> Yeah but I don't think it was really him (who) saying it wasn't him. I think it was somebody that wasn't him (who) saying it was him (who) so they could say the same person we were talking about really wasn't the same person we were talking about in case we remembered it and said something about it. That way him (who) could say I didn't say that he didn't say that or that him (who) could say he didn't say that he did say that. It's not really me that said this thing was AT but somebody that's not me saying that just in case I have to answer for something that I said. With all that being said, (or not said) I think it's pretty cool the way the blue stripe on the obv looks like Superman when he shoots his death ray from his eyes. L@@K!!! MONSTER RAINBOW DEATHRAY COIN-RARE!

I said it was real even before I saw it in the slab, but now I'm not so sure. I don't know enough about AT to have an informed opinion. I guess I chose real because I thought it had to be a "trick" question.

1. Russ was bored 2. PCGS put it in a holder 3. You guys have a wicked sense of humor.
BTW - Being the cheater I am (I already knew it was holdered), I was very careful to only say PCGS found it market acceptable. Hey, it could be textile toning. Maybe it was stored in the washrag used to wipe up a liver of sulphur spill.

<< <i>I have a question, when was it slabbed? As we found out with the nickels, PCGS would slab wild toned coins in the past. >>
My thoughts EXACTLY!!
"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose." It was on an order that completed the same day you got that truckload of bodybagged proof Jeffersons.
Actually, I don't know. It was relatively recently, though, as it's in a new holder. It was listed on eBay a while back and I just about fell out of my chair when I saw it, so I saved the images.
I know you'd have to be nuts to do it, but I'll bet that if you cracked it out and re-submitted i,t they'd bodybag it for AT. Of course, that's just my opinion. Looks like it sat with the potatoes under the barbecue grill.
It looks AT to me. The color seems to "lay" on top of the surface of the coin, like it says in the PCGS grading guide.

I think that PCGS is never wrong and the coin must be natural toning or they would not have graded it.
