These are US Mint struck gold bullion pieces. A short series was struck circa early 1980's. I really don't know if they command any premium today...I doubt if they bring much more than bullion, if that.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
A dealer at last week's St. Petersburg, FL show had a number of these. He was selling them for bullion. In the past these medals did have some collector value. He told me that they did when the gold price was lower. Now that it's up, they sell for melt.
These pieces probably don't have a great future. Collectors gravitate toward coins (pieces with a denomination stamped on them) and not medals, which is shame is some ways.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
