coins to music

Like the matching of a fine wine to a main course, if you were to have a private showing of your collection in your home for family and friends, what music would you have playing in the background to create that perfect mood for your guests?

For the 19th century stuff I figure Beethoven, Schumann, or Brahms will work for the German coins. Russian stuff would best be shown to Rimsky-Korsakov or Liadov. Of course, the American stuff can have Sousa or hymns like "How Firm a Foundation" playing in the background.

Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom (sp?)

I think that the riffs that he does would go well with a continuous cycle of various coins, differing dates, old and new mixed.

    Anything by David Gilmour

This would work well with a loosely structured view of coins by type which would highlight the best example or most exotic toned coins right as the music peaks.

Sick Feet Under, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore and/or Acid Bath. Anything from these types work great - at keeping family away. The few friends that can stomach this are welcome. Of course, if my kids are around, I have to settle on something a bit more mellow. Maybe some Kyuss or Bongzilla if they are in the house.

Not sure since I'd be having a beer rather than fine wine. LincolnSence - what music would you have liked when viewing my collection last month??

Since so many great collectors are dead, how about Mozart's Requim??

It fits, you could listen to an italian composer while one views coins created by an italian designer.

I don't know what it is but a good Metallica song in my Mercedes at about 110 MPH really gets the goosebumps flowing on my arms.

I would like to think that "Fur Elise" would be the proper accompaniment to my collection. The reality, unfortunately, is that "Friends in Low Places" would be more accurate.

Great choice! The last good song Metallica ever recorded. I found St. Anger in the used section of my record store 2 weeks after it went on sale. After barely making it through one listen, I can see why the original purchaser wanted to unload it. It's sad to say, but I think Metallica is done.

I don't know exactly what it would be, but something classical or jazz. To me most other types of music would take the class out of the coins.

  • It would have to be a collection of eddie money songs, but only one of my sisters would understand.(or even listen). Then again, lyle lovett's M-O-N-E-Y would be appropriate and pleasing to all.

just give me money..........thats what i want

    beatles .....who else?
  • Lakesammman: Your collection was superb to say the least, but I'm afraid I will be dating myself when I suggest some new wave (instrumental old foggie stuff according to my kids) works best for me. Its all about the mood and feeling created, not the words as others have suggested in some cases.
