Is $100 a foolish bid for this 1852 $1 gold coin?

Please advise....

Is $100 too much to bid on this 1852 $1 gold coin? (sorry about the size proportion)

Assuming it's real, of course.

But, unless it's someone with an impeccable reputation, I would be concerned about the coin's authenticity and would recommend that you NOT take the risk.
This is who it is!
What do you think....my maximum bid is $100.

specimens of this type is prudent.
I see the seller is liquidating a friend's collection. As such, if not authentic, is the sellor exempt from
culpability as providing 'only a venue'?
I didn't see a return policy stated...

the big three plastic tombs are kinda worth it ..........I guess
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I am speaking from experience. I've been screwed because I wasn't knowledgable enough on Gold Coinage and by the time I had received the coin in a body bag stating "Authenticity Questionable" the seller was nowhere to be found.
If this coin is genuine, then the $100.00 is a great price.

Having bought them myself, I can attest that there is plenty of raw gold on eBay that is cleaned/whizzed/counterfiet.
I count anything outside PCGS,NGC or ANACS as raw.

BTW....the current bid is up to $93.00+, so it does look as if it is going to go over $100....whew!
Thanks again everyone....you're great!

It just doesn't look right to me. I think it's fake.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
$100 is kinda pricey for a counterfeit with somewhere $30 of gold bullion value
Even if you get this coin, will cost you another $15-35 to send to ANACS/PCGS to find out a fake and with all of mailing and slow turnaround, will be hard to collect on 30 day return
if you win, sell to KEETS or try to talk the guy into you paying to send to grading company and if real, buy the coin - if fake, refund grading fees
You are out of the woods!!!!
Given the sharpness this coin could bring from $175 to $250. If a couple of people think it will get into a slab as an MS-63, it could bring a lot more. If it does, the buyer might be disappointed.
Thanks to all who responded, and to Condor who offered to bail me out....I've learned a valuable lesson....best of all....I don't have to fess up to the hubby!
You are all terrific!
