Does Anyone Know Why So Many Items Are Backordered At The US Mint?

I suspect that if I were to call them and ask about the delays, I would find that they really don't care.
At least that's what happened to me when I called them back in 2001 about the delays in shipping
out the Buffalo Coin And Currency sets.

The only reason I can think of that makes sense is the demand is so great. I guess they could be having production difficulties too. That's something they are not likely
to come out and say.

They're probably dog tired from being unable to sleep at night knowing that they're simply promoting bullion coins as being collectable.
