  • 1802 C-2 is a rarity 3 coin. According to the publication Penny Prices which was printed in July 2003 and authored by Bill Noyes, an EAC AG3 has a price of $400, an EAC G5 had a price of $900.

    The 1802 C1 is the major rarity (R6) with an AG3 listed at 15K; a G5 at 20K.

Top condition census coins for the C2 variety are 35/35/25/25/25/25/20................20 for the first 12.

An EAC AG3 is approximately equivalent to a slabbed G; an EAC G5 is approximately equivalent to a slabbed VG.

Choice AG3 and G5 coins likely do not exist.
  • Looking at the last few 1802 1/2 cent ANACS G4's that sold went for ($380.65 corroded & scratched sold May 3, 2003)-- ($368.00 corroded & bent sold May 3, 2003)
    PCGS G4 sold for $506.00 March 3, 2003

Here is my 1802, C-2 half cent. It's an ANACS VF-25, and it was the coin from the Garrett collection. This is about as good as you will find for this coin unless you attend a major auction and have a chance to buy one of the finest known examples.

The 1802 C-1 is impossilbe to find. It may be an R-6, but the collectors who have them won't sell.

All 1802 half cents were made from poor planchets which expains the overall poor quality of the available coins. Dark and crusty is the rule.
