    Maybe we should be calling the US half a "US Walker" given that the French design is older.

    To answer your questions: No and Yes.

    It's a matte proof pattern ("essai") for the crown-sized 5 franc denomination. I don't know exactly how rare it is, but I'd guess that there must be at least a couple dozen known. (Anyone know?) A gem is probably worth about 10K.
