1983 Jogo CFL Warren Moon Rookie

I am looking for anyone that has any information on the 1983 Jogo CFL set that contains Warren Moon's Rookie card. I know that there was only 500 sets ever produced and I am looking for a price on it. Any info would be great. I have one set myself and looking to add it to set registry. However with very limited producion I am not sure if it would be worth it.

Thanks,
Darren

  • there were only 500, but, as the story goes, Warren himself bought around 400 or so for his personal collection, so in effect there are only around 100 or so in public circulation. i forgot how much the card books for, but it was somewhere in the hundreds a few years ago
  • Are you serious about that. I never knew or had heard about it. Maybe it is time to grade my set then.

A scan of completed eBay items reveals a PSA 8 sold for $199.95 today and a PSA 9 that didn't meet the minimum bid of $1,500.
  • turbos, whenever i go back to austin this weekend ill get my old beckett almanac and look up the story on the Moon card
  • Great I Would Appreciate that. Unlike the people who sold the Moon's on Ebay, I want to keep the set intact. Now there is one less set available. I see one on Ebay right now with a Min. Bid of $600.00.

According to the Beckett annual, there were 600 sets made, 500 of which were serial numbered (only the last card in the set was numbered). It says Moon's card is "especially difficult to find since the player purchased quantities of his own card directly from the producer for distribution to his fans."

You should also know that, although his most expensive and desirable Canadian card, the '83 is not his Canadian RC. He had four cards in 1981, including a mainstream RC in that year's Jogo set.

  • Joe,
I thought that 83 wasn't his rookie, I've seen a bunch of 81's on Ebay in the last few years...thanks for the info
  • Thanks. I forgot about the Post cards and the Red Rooster set too. The but I do believe that the 1983 is still the hardest to find.
