It is a well-known fact that the vast majority of HBS grads find their way to investment banking and management consulting. Having worked as a forensic accountant and litigation consultant for five years (which, though not exactly the same -- touches on many of the analyses that I would be doing for IB or MC, at a high level), I can honestly say that although I was extremely satisfied with my work experience, from a long-term perspective, I would anticipate some unhappiness in terms of lifestyle characteristics. I was able to manage it quite well during my limited real-world experience, but I nonetheless knew that that would not be a sustainable concept.
As such -- I am attending many of the company presentations for IB and management consulting, but I think that the careers that truly match both my talents and my lifestyle desires are more in the corporate finance or investment management arenas. So far I am impressed with the opportunities that I could get at Fidelity Investments (imagine making recommendations as a Summer Intern that are acted upon by portfolio managers...), or more in the corporate finance arena for companies like Amazon, Amercian Express, Medtronic, or others.
Jim -- I will definitely be in touch with you -- I know that I still have your cell phone number handy. I've read some of your industry reports (oil/energy sector, right?) a few months back. It is clear that you are one of the many who loves what they do and has really developed a strong niche speciality. All my best.
Cheers- M
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
I would love to talk to you about different careers in the securities business. Fidelity is a great place--there are many others. As I recall, now is the interview time so sign up for as many companies as you can. Summer jobs lead to full-time offers. I would also recommend talking to Machodoc about it. With his wealthy of experience I am sure he will have many helpful insights.
Machodoc,
I know a few people at T. Rowe Price. I am currently the senior oil service analyst at Lehman after a 16-year career at Salomon Brothers where I was their oil service analyst, Director of U.S. Equity Research and ultimately Director of Global Equity Research. Its fun to have my own franchise again after being in management and you can do just as well financially.
Although Fido is not quite T. Rowe (my old loyalty showing here, I'm afraid), it's a good shop and certainly large enough to provide many of the opportunities you are looking for. I managed portfolios for T. Rowe for many years and we had several excellent interns cycle through the shop, many of which we made offers to after they finished school. Although I left the business in 2001 I still have lots of friends on the Buy Side and LMK if I can ever help.

Kobe,
4 stars for you. Cause you're a big dog that just put me in my place. For the power of the pc makes you the king of your world. But my guess when you logoff and shutdown it aint good. But hang in there. If it makes you feel strong we'll just say you got me good. I hope I recover...
Thanks. I enjoyed eating with you and your son. I had a blast. I loved the conversation about cards in the room. It was great. I hope I let others get a word in.
