How could I get a "PVC" on the nickle when it was submitted in the mint pliofilm?

Only submitted the 62's as they had whacko toning when I picked up the proof set in the orig mint packaging at a local show. Hell, I even showed the set to JB Steven, who gave me a cookie and told me to go away.

The graders don't know that. Receiving removes it from the celo and puts it in a flip. I'd guess it doesn't have PVC, though, and the grader
imagined it during that whole five seconds he looked at the coin. I had a freshly pulled proof Frankie bagged for enviro damage, turned right around and resubmitted it and it got slabbed.

Actually that stuff the mint put the coins in could exude a gas that could produce a haze on the coin that might "appear" to be a PVC film & as someone pointed out the 5 second glance may not have been able to distinguish the difference between toning and PVC.
Does the coin look like it has a haze on it?
    Is it toned?

Maybe you are one of the lucky chosen few that gets to pay 2 grading fees for 1 grade

(I was had a Type 2 Proof $20 gold BB'd for edge damage!! (Now THAT'LL make your pulse rate increase) - next submission - Pr65 - go figure!!)

I have seen PVC contaminated "blue Ikes" still in the mint cello. I imagine it could happen to proof sets also.
  • I think sometimes PVC is a generic.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • Was it from the mint set you purchased at the Bellaire Show ?

Yep, that's the one! The blue nickle with the gold Monticello etc. CAM effect.

    mindblowing!

I was kind of excited when I found that rascal. Hell, I showed it to everybody including the guys who were mowing the lawn at the hall. image

  • Just because it got a bodybag the first time dosen't mean it won't get graded ever again. Enjoy the nickel for what it is, even if it wasn't slabbed.

I fully intend to. That nickle will not be gracing the balmy climate of Newport Beach again.
