"Registry Quality" versus "Forum Member Quality" coins.

When selling or offering a coin on these forums do you make sure the coin is nice and something you have no doubts about the grade ? A few coins have been sold to members here and special care is taken before they are even offered. If a small doubt is in the mind it is off to the local dealer or Ebay. Most of the coins that have been sold are coins that were replaced either in the PCGS or NGC registry set that is being built.

Is this a sane policy or just stupidity in this era of Slabbed coins and Registry Sets ?

  • I just try to be honest about the coin. There will always be a point of view.

  • Ken, I would never offert a coin that I didn't think would be a solid for the grade coin, (are high end), to a forum member, and would also describe the coin as accurately as possible, with but one exception. I would sell "FANOFMODERNCOINS" anything I could get away with!imageimage Just kidding!image

People around here are pretty fickle so you have to sell nice coins for less $$ than you can get elsewhereimage------------BigE

  • It is a very nice policy image I just received a "Forum Member Quality" Mercury dime from Ken and am pleased with it.

However I think you should offer us everything with an accurate description. Only label those special coins "Forum Member Quality", which is a term you should trademark image

I saw that coin, you beat me to it Carl, or this Carl might have added a Merc to his collection just for fun. Nice looking coin.

Anything I offer to sell here, was purchased for my personal enjoyment--and if it passed muster with me, I don't hesitate to offer it to others. Remember "If it's good enough for Clank--You can take it to the bank!" image

Whenever I sell something on the board, I do try to be honest about the coin's attributes. Both the good and bad ones.

Actually, FOM has his standards - it has to be modern & it has to be PCGS - so if you can meet his strict standards, you don't even have to worry about his "discerning eye" - that part's already been taken care of by the plastic holder

When I sell something here it is almost always PQ for the grade. At times I have offered lower end for the grade, but when I do, I discount it deeply and make sure to point out the weaknesses. Some members here are happy to buy ugly coins at deep discounts with the idea of dipping them and resubmitting. I also accept returns on any coin I sell.
