Large Cent

I'm considering bidding on this large cent on ebay...

I was just wondering what you thought about the lines above and below the 'One Cent' on the reverse. Im new to US coins. Were those lines scratched out intentionally?

Those lines are damage... just like the rim ding. With the damage, I doubt the coin is worth what it's listed for... I'd pass.

    What Jeremy said.

While it is a nice looking coin, it is a problem coin, and there's no need to overpay for a damaged US large cent from somebody in England when there are plenty of nicer ones available from forum members. I don't think I have any that are that high grade, but I do have many in the G-F range and maybe one in VF. Somebody has a PCGS AU55 listed on the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, but that's bound to cost a little more.

it may be damaged, but that looks like a mint-made rim-clip. not rare, but i like those.
