Roosie FB weights are in

I see that PCGS gave all Roosevelt dimes from 1946-Date (2) bonus points for every single date and M/M. I see that nothing was taken into consideration as too rarity. I think that each coin should have been looked at. Weights should have ranged from 1-5. Oh wellimage

  • I think they are going to wait a little while and make adjustments
as the get more data from the pop reports over time, these are
not set in stone yet. I think we may see some changes over the
    next serveral months

Has anyone seen them get a weighting even close to correct for any series yet? They should put it out to the most prolific graders and collectors of each series and ask them what the weightings ought to be.image

Another thought would be to create a weighted average based upon the moving populations that automatically recalulates the score each time the pop reports are updated
  • maybe it is too early to tell yet

have they ever came back 3-5 years later and changed the weights for the harder/easier issues (according to population reports)?

"Another thought would be to create a weighted average based upon the moving populations that automatically recalulates the score each time the pop reports are updated." Datentype, this by far the best idea that I have heard of yet.

They should do this with ALL series that have designation.

Another thought would be NOT to give FB designations to roosies........imageimage

Thanks Paul, it's a simple algorythm that could be incorporated for each series. There would be a table that each registered set feeds off of. The database load would feed this table and then the sets would be updated as part of the last load. This is the only accurate way to add appropriate weights to the individual coins in my opinion. Anything else is a plug and not correct arithmetically.

Please if there are any real programmers or mathmaticians out there, feel free to help us figure this out and then suggest this to pcgs. It could be potentially quite easy to do but since this is a free service according to David Hall and it is likely not going to get too much attention for quite some time. maybe after a year or two and things mature in the registry world it would be incorporated. I love the excitement concept of two close sets going back and forth based on the uploaded population information. This stuff is fun!image

    Paul,

Nice post. Now, I would think with time the bonus will change based on populations. In the Mercury set most coins have a two point bonus with a few having three and the 1945 having five. I think it will come it will just take some time to establish.
