A Great Example of The Value Of This Board...

If there is no greater example of the worth of this board than the willingness of its members to share info, ideas, and cards, then I want to publicly thank Scott Wetzel for his willingness to help me with my new 1973 Topps set. I also want to thank those members who referred me to Scott.

Scott and I just concluded a substantial private transaction where I was able to purchase over 150 1973 PSA 8 NQ cards, with a couple of dozen 9's as well - including a Clemente 9. It was a fair, professional, and prompt transaction, and since we live reasonably close to each other, we were able to meet each other and conclude the transaction in person. All around, a great example of this community of collectors being able to work together towards a common goal.

With this transaction I just might make 4th place on the current 1973 Topps list. Thanks Scott!

Steve

Scott has been a wonderful person with whom I've transacted, too. I send him my greatest Kudos -- and hope that I am able to meet him at some point as well.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • Steve,

I agree. This board is a great place to get to know people who can help you with cards you need or point you in the right direction. In the past week alone, I've made private transactions with Luke (ljb17), Larry (King Kellogg), John Basilone, and Peter Lalos (Champs & Bums - not a member here that I know of, but I would have never known of him if not for this message board). These transactions will account for about 20 cards that I would have otherwise had to wait to show up on ebay, and then deal with the bidding wars.

Thanks to these guys and others I've dealt with privately in the past (Stump, Jay, RobE, Chris Klinger, Frank Bakka, etc. - I'm sure I've missed a few, sorry if I did).

    JEB.

Edited to remove a stray comma.

  • Steve:

Glad to hear it! And 4th is a good place to be; just don't be eyin' that 2nd spot too hard!

  • I have learned a lot from the people on this board. The wealth of knowledge is awesome along with the willingness of people helping each other out with whatever they need. I have had many people from this board help me out with my sets.

    Steve,
I am glad i could help you out. It was nice meeting a fellow board member. Hopefully i will have time to go to the National in Cleveland next year.

Not to worry. . .I get the distinct feeling that Stephen will have a collector or two driving him on the 73s.

  • Hey Scott I was wondering where you live. Are you in the Minneapolis Area?
  • I live in Maryland, close to Washington, D.C.

  • Scott,

Caulk up another Maryland boy here on the boards...I'm up in Columbia. Drop me a line if you know of any good shows in the area. Shoff shows are full of Pokemon cr@p.

    Thanks,

Scott's a big buyer anyways. A little extra cash to him means that anybody making the same set as him is either going to lose or pay through the nose.
