Newsprint toning on coins!!??

Has anyone ever encountered this?:

I picked up a 1961 Franklin that looks like a 65 FBL... but it was apparently stored in newspaper for some time , as you can see a mirror image of newsprint in the light toning. Will PCGS grade it or bodybag it???

I'm trying to create that toning in the garage right now, as a matter of fact. As an experiment.

I believe PCGS will bodybag it for enviromental damage or AT, but the only way to know is to post a pic in the Q&A forum and ask Mr. Hall, or send it to PCGS to get graded.

You sure it's newsprint? It might be text from a Whitman.
I don't know about PCGS but I know NGC will slab a coin with text toning.
I remember a coin that coinguy1 had as a case in point.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Results are in: It is now a PCGS MS65 FBL with readable newsprint toning! When I get it back I will try to post a pix.

Interesting. I've heard of this, but have never seen a good example.

Who knows what they will do? What you should do is not throw good money after bad and not send the coin in.

From above it was already slabbed and in a good grade.

I'd certainly be interested in seeing a pic of that. Congrats on the grade, seems PCGS agrees with you.
