GARY E. LEWIS AND WILLIAM H. HORTON JR.

ELECTED NEW ANA PRESIDENT AND VP;

THREE NEW GOVERNORS TO JOIN BOARD

A new president and vice president, and three new and four
incumbents have been elected to the American Numismatic Association
(ANA) nine-member Board of Governors, with 8,544 ballots cast in the
biennial election.
ANA Vice President Gary E. Lewis of Cape Coral, Florida, was
elected president, defeating ANA Governor Patricia A. Finner of Iola,
Wisconsin. Lewis received 4,589 votes to Finner's 3,827.
In the contested election for the vice presidency, Governor William
H. Horton Jr. of Keyport, New Jersey, defeated Governor Kay Edgerton
Lenker of San Diego, California, by a vote of 4,391 to 3,919.
New Board members are Alan Herbert, Donald H. Kagin and Will
Rossman. Incumbents re-elected are M. Remy Bourne, Arthur M. Fitts III,
Barry Stuppler and John Wilson.
Lewis, a 43-year life member of the ANA, was first elected to the
Board of Governors in 1995 and has served on the ANA's Audit, Finance,
Exhibit, Resolutions, Mediation, Commemorative Quarter and Young
Numismatists Committees. He also has served as a regional, district and
club representative and is the 1979 recipient of the ANA Outstanding
Adult Advisor Award.
Horton, a 31-year life member of the ANA, was first elected to the
Board of Governors in 2001. The general chairman of the 2000 ANA World's
Fair of Money in Philadelphia, he is a co-founder and first president of
the Garden State Numismatic Association, and has served as president of
a number of other clubs. Horton has served on a number of committees for
the ANA and been recognized by several clubs for his outstanding
contributions.
All members of the ANA Board of Governors elected this year will
assume office during the Association's 112th Anniversary Convention in
Baltimore, Maryland, July 30-August 3. Installation of officers will
take place at the convention banquet on Saturday, August 2.
Votes garnered by the winning candidates, as tabulated by the
independent accounting firm of Biggs Kofford & Company are:

* 4,939 for Stuppler of Woodland Hills, California
* 3,375 for Anthony Tumonis of Tucson, Arizona
* 5,918 for John Wilson of Ocala, Florida

Nearly 30 percent of the eligible ANA voting membership cast
ballots in this election; nearly 28 percent voted in the ANA election
two years ago.

Yeah, I heard. And I am not very pleased. At least Will made it on, and.. well I will keep the negativity to myself, but I am very disappointed with some of the other spots.

Patty Finner is probably the best friend the average collector could have on the board. That is a source of my major disappointment, along with the fact that another well known ex-board member got back on who is well known for burying his head in the sand anytime the subject of putting a stop to numismatic fraud is brought up.

    Read up on Stuppler!!
He is a self serving FSOB that violated the ethics of the board!!
PNG member, dealer and is looking out for that only!! What's next, SEGS, NTC, ICG, etc.!!!image
Why didn't he mention NTC[Jim Halperin] and PCGS[David Hall] were hit by the FTC. ,but everyone else only has complaints that are not under Federal Indictment! GEEZ, Does that explain why Mr. Hall can't discuss anything with Collector Universe or Mr. Halperin {Heritage} no longer has an interest in NTC!!

I wasn't duped by hype and print, but I guess most of you were!

Please elaborate for the readers here just how Mr. Stuppler 'violated the ethics of the board'. Please do so without using the words: ACG, Hager, Diane or Alan.

jeffnpcb, any links to where I could read up on Mr. Stuppler?

I wasn't duped by hype and print, but I guess most of you were!

Jeffrey - I'd tell you the only reason that I voted for Barry Stuppler was that Diane Hager didn't run, but I'm afraid you might think I was serious.

How come I didn't see Andy L.'s name on the ballots?

Seth - As you can see from my response to Jeffrey, I lack the political tact necessary to survive on the ANA Board. (There are more than a couple of participants on this Forum who can vouch for this!)

    jeffnpub: Your statement:

Well, I do not know about all of the stuff about Halperin and NTC but that has nothing to do with David Hall and Collectors Universe. You are obviously not aware of the SEC rules involving ANY "insider" of any publicly held and traded corporation prohibiting forward results discussions except those that have already been released to the general public.

Had David Hall been under a major cloud with the FTC that would have likely prevented his being a stockholder with CLCT. This is not the case. You may want to withdraw your "cause and effect" posting.

Gary Lewis was at the Clearwater show. A very nice gentleman indeed. I am glad he won.
I certainly voted for him. As far as jeffpnc's comments about Stupler, I have no idea what he is talking about. All I know is that Mr. Stuppler has done more for numismatic consumer advocacy than jeffpmc has ever done.

    Huh?
So self serving that he tried to protect a collector from overpaying for some ACG garbage.
He didn't violate any ethics. He took a stand as a dealer, NOT a board member, something the do-nothing-cya ANA board should do, but never has done.

<< <i>I wasn't duped by hype and print, but I guess most of you were! >>

Methinks you got it backwards, palimage

BTW, in case there's any confusion because of the first name, I'm not Barry Stuppler.

Regarding jeffnpcb's ridiculous statement, I see others have pretty much covered the bases.

As far as Michael Fey, I am really disappointed he didn't make it. I think he would have been an outstanding governor.

Thanks to those who wished me well.

The ANA Board will continue to please some/displease others by its activitties/inactivities, but we have the next two years (and then some) to discuss that (I WILL be on the boards and available to discuss anything not prohibited by the confidentiality agreement I signed).

For those who brought up tact or a lack thereof and the question of ba..., er, intestinal fortitude, think consensus building. A wise man once said it all boils down to whether you can count to five (the number of votes necessary to pass a motion). You get there by tact and, communications not by insulting the sources of those needed votes.

Gary Lewis and the Playboys did "This Diamond Ring" and a few other pop hits. "Judy In Disguise" was by John Fred and the Playboys, a group of SAE frat boys at LSU when I was there.

Currently on the road in Kansas (105 degrees yesterday) headed slowly towards Baltimore via the Upper Midwest and New England.

Congratulations on winning a seat. You gained at least 2 votes (I have a YN member of the ANA in my house image ) from your posts here.

Will: Congrats on getting on the board. Too bad Michael Fey did not join you. There will be a next time.

By the way, I received the Francis Scott Key/USS Constitution ANA silver and bronze convention medals and they are BEAUTIFUL!!!! This is the last year of the old ANA logo on the ANA medals?????????

I hate the new ANA logo. It should be a picture of the Morgan Silver Dollar Liberty, probably the most recognized symbol of all US Coinage and also fits better with the date of inception of the ANA. I spoke with Chris Cippoletti and vented (nicely) about my sentiments. He happens to be a great guy from what I see and hear of him but we just chose to disagree on that one issue.
