I have been collecting the 1971 OPC set and trying to complete it in the registry with some success. Then something like this happens and you wonder if it is even worth trying. WHy did this PSA 8 go for over $125.00 is beyond me, when all the others go for around 30-40 bucks. Any ideas other than it is #1 in the set.Ebay Item

FINISHED 12/8/2008!!!
A couple of reasons . The guy that won it is a collector of #1 cards (meaning the first card in every hockey set). Secondly it was sold as a 1/1 when in fact it is a 1/2 and has been since at least June 12 .
There certainly will be more of this card graded and im sure Gerry Chartrand benefited by listing it as a 1/1

Its was the combination of the 1/1 card and more import it being the #1 card in the set. Steve Parthum is a very competitive bidder especially on #1 cards. I know he paid $880 for the #1 57 Topps PSA 8 Chevrifils and i believe he was the high bidder on the #1 PSA 8 1953 Parkhurst Harry Lumley at over $2200(Yawie correct me if im wrong on that). Im almost positive that if that card wasnt a # 1 card Steve wouldnt of even bid on it.
