whats the worst word in numismatics..

In your opinion.

after some responses I,ll throw out a word that no one seems to use that
I believe sorta sums in up for me.

I,m contemplating my on personal designation system now, conceptualized
from seeing this `word` on `a coins condition`that I read......somewhere......

    "rare"

I hate that word so much now after seeing so many ebay auctions with that in the title and description where a common coin is being described.image

"1989" when talking about what the coins were worth back then, it has nothing to do with what it's worth today but lots of people still think they need to add that the coin for sale was worth $2,000 in 1989 and the'll let it go for the low price of $100

just now realizing `numismatics` does encompass a wide variety of areas of importance
so for that matter, I guess fraud would be the worst word ,obviously, I guess I,m meaning in the
context of grade and condition. Just to clarify my intentioned topic a bit.

"Lenin is certainly right. There is no subtler or more severe means of overturning the existing basis of society(destroy capitalism) than to debauch the currency. The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

I don't even use the word to describe a coin any more. A good image is worth a thousand words. Let the person lookin at the coin or the image determine if the coin sets itself apart or not.

Why stop with one when there are many that truly annoy! image

"Original" Guaranteed to be a scrubbed cleaned turd

"problem Free" Guarenteed to be a scrubbed cleaned turd, and will be chock full o' problems.

@Look@@ Guaranteed to be a ultra common coin grading G/AG with $6.00 shipping. (Ebay coins)

"key date" When the coin can be bought by the bucketfull at most coin shops.

"Rainbow" when not only is the coin not rainbow toned, but looks like a crappy dark slug.

Sharp(place your grade here) and the coin is two grades lower and cleaned....Ebay's ERNIE...OH I am in trouble now! image

The words in numismatics are I, is, mat, a, at and tics.

Tics is the worst of these.

"problem" is the worst word, hands-down. ie. when someone tells you that a 1794 dollar that's been cleaned is a "problem" coin, that someone is a moron. the only "problem" is people who can't accept a coin for what it is, & want it to be "perfect" in some obscure, unapproachable way.

I'm with RYK, whizzed is definitely an undesirable description and probably would only be tolerated in a serious collection for a REAL rarity.

Dipping - the next generation will view dipping the same way the current generation views baking soda cleaning that was accepted in the 60's and even explained in the "Guidebook". The cumulative effect of multiple "properly done dippings" will leave many coins ruined, for rare bust coins and other scarce coins this is a tragedy.
