OT-Another Phony Ebay Email?

TassaTassa Posts: 2,373 ✭✭
I received an email with the return address bonus@ebay.com today that looked somewhat suspicious. It said that if you click on a link to your "MY Ebay" page you will (supposedly) be entered in a drawing for an SUV. Looks to me like another attempt to steal passwords. Has anyone else received a similar email?

  • Everyday. They are fake and you should not log in on that page.

I have forwarded around 7 to ebay today alone. I always go to the links they give. You can usually log into the "next page" without entering any info.

I am getting spam like that all the time - although a new SUV is a new twist (but really, would eBay GIVE away anything?)

I forward it to "spoof@ebay.com" and they close them down rather quickly

Thanks. I was trying to figure out where to forward the email. It seems like you have to click all around the site to get the information you want sometimes.
Suprisingly, this is only the second phony Ebay email I have ever received.

If you sell and have your email in the listing for questions or paypal -> happens more frequently

I would bet that people are selling a "mailing list" of the email address of eBay sellers, just like magazines sell their subscriber list for junk mail (and other cool offers)
  • I have been a member of eBay for years now..I have never received one of those letters....crossed fingers.
