I think this Morgan is undergraded. What would be your grade based on this picture. It was graded by SEG for those that dont know the slab.
I will post the grade later today.
Thanks.

<< <i>Yeah, yeah. Just your opinions from the picture. >>
OK, in that case, 64.

One question I ask my self when I'm evaluating a coin at a certain grade, is "if offered to me as X grade would I pay X grade money for it?
If the answer is no, then it doesn't matter what the holder says. With the marks below the eye, I would not pay 65 money for this coin.
Also there is some softness of strike at the hair above the ear. Can't judge luster. Pin strach or two above the eagle. But its the hits below Liberty's eye that limit the grade.

without knowing a date or mint i'll say it looks to be MS63-64 from the strike.

I would say it was a 64/65 from the picture. I don't actually have the coin yet so I am also going by the picture hoping it looks the same. I have bought from this dealer before and his pictures are accurate on his website.

You've gotten a lot of good feedback. A Philly Morgan usually should be well struck. Is the hair above the ear that softly struck, or is it the lighting? I'd like to see a 5 or higher with more detail in that area (but you usually won't get it re a Morgan from Nawlins). The cheek seems very clean, so no problems there. I like the rim toning. A question was raised re subdued luster, which will take a toll on a coin's grade. There is also a good-sized hit above the eagle on the reverse. A 4 doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I hate to be the low ball in the group.

It is in a MS62 slab. Now remember we are all going by the picture, and to me the coin looks lots better.
Thanks for all the opinions and I will post the coin w new picture when I get it.

I also like the look and feel of their holder and the fact that the date/mm/grade is on top of the slab in little letters

there is a good nick/scratch on the reverse below god and a couple other nicks to eagles right and below talons
the obverse picture looks computer played with to me- or else the light is at such an angle to not see much but the colors
also the obverse seems like a rather weak strike with detail lacking above the ear
Once you get it and take your pictures, we will get a better idea
???? are you thinking of cracking it out and submitting somewhere again ?? would want a 64 at least to do that wouldn't you?
- Below the eye
- Where the chin and neck meet
- Toward the bottom of the neck
- Above the eagle's head
- Marks just above "united"
- By the "R" in dollar
Although small, there are a lot of them. You can see a lot of field abrations too. I'd say if you sent it to PCGS, you'd get a strong 62 maybe a 3.
