I scored a 21. Just where I thought I would land. I have both Liberal and Conservative thoughts. Theres no way one party can be right all the time! Glenn
Question....... How can the poor get any more of a tax cut? They don't pay any to begin with so let's get off the kick that the cut doesn't benefit the poor. It doesn't because they don't pay any and get money back. Figure that out.
Some of you really know coins but some of the earlier comments on social security show absolutely no knowledge of history, economics or reality for that matter. Mind boggling!
Not sure who wrote it but one or more people said they should eliminate SS. More than 60% of retirees are living exclusively on SS. No pension, no 401k, no savings, no home equity. And these are people who were "well off" when they were working. Today there are fewer pensions, high debt, self funded savings, high medical costs/prescription costs, etc. If you are 40 - 50 and dont have your financial house together yet you will most likely be living a very insecure retirement, with or without SS. Take it away and there will be a revolution.
SS was not designed as a welfare system to fully support people throughout their retirement - it was designed to supplement retirees' income during a time of EXTREME woe and want. Seniors are now supported by the AARP who keep them up to their knees in government entitlements - at the expense of the young.
If seniors squandered their retirement I don't see how young people struggling to survive should be responsible. I think everyone knows it's ridiculous that the statistically poor young support the statistically rich old, but the AARP means to keep it that way. Seniors are just about the only ones with any faith in government, the only ones represented by said government, and the only ones that vote - massive compensation to the elderly will NEVER go away.
I agree with someone's previous post - it's generational theft, pure and simple.
BTW - I think you can bow out of the SS system. You have to claim yourself as a sovereign citizen of your state and not held under the tax laws of the nation. You lose your SS number (big loss) and are ineligible for the tiny fraction of your contributions 50 years from now.
Progressive in the tradition of TR, Robert La Follette, Albert Cummings and Hiram Johnson...and there are others worthy of mentioning but is anyone really going to read this?

If Social Security is so great, why are those that run the system - Federal employees - allowed to opt out of it while the rest of us have no choice? Gee, do they know something we don't?
BTW, guess what happens to people who stay in the middle of the road? They get run over. Or, to put it another way. It's easy to ride the fence when you have no balls.

I know I'm liberal.......I think people should liberally choose among available options when it comes to.......
Selecting their own health care
Electing to participate in Social Security or NOT
Sending their children and taxes to schools
Conservative means "tending to oppose change." Liberal is "open for new ideas to progress." Not sure
how Democrats laid claim to "liberal," but "tax and spend" is decades old now.
A neat new liberal idea would be to allow me and my family to "bow out" of Social Security for life! I'd gladly drop it!

America is NOT necessarily the most free country out there.
The fact that we are the only industrialized country without universal health coverage is not a good sign.

Given the boatload of money given from Enron to Democrats, your argument would be better served without them in your list!
