What do you believe is the approximate value of an 1860 Seated Dollar in NGC Proof 65 Ultra Cam?

Here's a question for you lovers of proof seated dollars or anyone else who cares to answer:

What do you believe is the approximate value of an 1860 Seated Dollar in NGC Proof 65 Ultra Cam, most evolved NGC holder with
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation written in the border on the front of the slab?

The coin is totally white (most surely conserved) and it has absolutely no haze whatsoever. With regard to the depth and "real clarity of
mirrors" I would rate it a 7 or 8 on a scale of one to ten. It is not a drop dead headlight screaming coin with mirrors to die for, but it
truly has no haze.

I would say the detractions are that the mirrors could be deeper and the devices a wee bit frostier but i don't own it yet, so that could
change. (IWH) I would say that it has no significant distractions.

I've got one experienced opinion from one of my favorite female coin dealers that it's worth a bit over $17,500 to something less than 40K.

Anyone else wanna give an opinion?

(It is not in an upcoming public auction.)

In layman's terms, conservation is what people do to coins to remove just the toning.
  • Ahhhh. Dipped you mean. Well, if its been dipped/doctored then it can't be Mint State. How much do tooled/doctored/dipped coins like that go for? I have no idea.

What do you think it would sell for if i put it up for one cent with no reserve?

Hard to say... didn't you have a similar coin a year back or so... blast white proof UCAM seated dollar? I remember seeing such a coin on ebay and at a show if I do remember correctly.

If you do that Adrian I'll put at least $8K on it; AND I don't collect the dollars AND I don't like proofs. That'll at least get some momentum going. Maybe you could highlight the listing in blue for an extra buck...I've read that doing so would increase the sale price of the item by 50% or something. image

Hey Jarrett! Yes, i did have it a while back but bought it about 5 months ago. Incidentally, I still have it and it's a different date and is in DCAM, i.e., a PCGS coin.

It is finer than the 1860.

    for me

the 1860 proof seated dollar for the most part doesnot come with deep watery mirrors usually shallow to medium mirrors and usually not always the frost on the devices is deeper than the mirrors

you really need the most important aspect of ultra cameo to get the ultra cameo designation and that is the contrast
strong contrast has to be between the devices and fields to earn the ultra cameo designation which i think this coin doesnot have! but without seeing it this is only a guesstimate based on my experiences with this date

this coin was dipped to "bring out" more of the cameo contrast looking for the ultra cameo designation and it worked!!!! and to me without seeing the coin i cant say for sure
but most probably a nice cameo

but is a squeaked by ultra cameo ..................... maxed out in its current holder!!??!!

for me it is not a value coin nor a coin to buy as there will be a stronger price based on the designation on the current holder but without seeing the coin i would price this coin on a retail coin website at 17,500 and if i liked the coin sight seen........ possibly more

i would love to see this coin in person

and as per the above this is just based on the description and then extrapolating my experiences with proof 1860 seated dollars.

with regards to the ultra cameo designation it should be in a cameo holder

    sincerely michael

    Thanks, Michael.
  • I think there is a buyer, somewhere, perhaps eating breakfast right now, at $23.5.
