Can carbon spots be removed?

Can they be removed? If so, how? Is my only option sending them to NCS? Please let me know.

Thank you,
David

  • Carbon spots can be removed, but since theres carbon on the surface, the spots will reappear over time!

Sorry, I cant remember the name of the dip, got it from Stephans Coins in Ontario, Ca.

I have seen carbon spots removed from a supergrade Liberty Nickel. The
problem was that while the black carbon was gone, it was replaced by whitish
spots instead. They weren't as eyecatching as the carbon, but you still noticed
them, because they did not fit with the rest of the coin.

I wasn't impressed with the results.

I sent an indian cent to NCS with some carbon spots and they did pretty much remove the spots but the whole color of the coin was changed to a color in my opinion that was un-natural. mike
