PCI and Color of Encapsulation

Can someone please refresh my memory as to the color indicators for PCI's encapsulation ... I know that 'red' means that there is something wrong like cleaning or A.T.... What is the difference between 'gold' and 'green' borders??

I picked up a 1941 MS68PQ lincoln with a green border. Coin look s real good but I forgot what the color code means...

Thanks

Green was the old "problem-free" designation.

Gold is a new thing, which I suspect just replaces the green label. I think they still use red for problem coins.

Blue is rather scarce and was made for world coins around 1992. The short lived series is estimated (by me) to have about 250-300 specimens still surving today.

I've seen the blue ones, but not too many of them.

I always thought the green to be graded about right. Anything else is a problem to meimage

CoinWorld just did a thing where they submitted lots of coins to different services... what most companies (including ACG image!) bagged, PCI placed in MS (gold) holders...

The same survey showed some coins though PCGS graded that received a lesser grade via PCI.

Yeah, the gold labels don't have a very good rep, from what I've heard (not that PCI itself has that great a reputation).

I have a 1907 Repunched Date $2.50 Lib in a PCI AU58 gold label holder that I think is accurately graded, but that's the only gold label I've ever had. I did actually get a few upgrades when I sent some of the old green label PCI slabs to NGC for crossover. You can do well with the old green labels, sometimes. Once I did have a cleaned coin in a PCI green slab, though.

I have handled many PCI coins, just about every generation of PCI slab there is. Here is my opinion on them:

And don't forget the PCI 7 slab, the PCI signature series with the blue label.
