Not coin related, but important to me

While my birthday was Wednesday, I am 'celebrating' tomorrow by running the Palos Verdes Marathon.

I first ran it 35 years ago, and it will be my first one since knee surgery four years ago. As I have been running continuously for this 35 year period, I have slowed down quite a bit so my goal is to finish & not get injured again. If the body parts behave, I think I can do it.

If you're in the area & you see a guy wearing a bright canary yellow Brasilian soccer jersey in the back of the back (the jersey is so loud that it'll "jump out at you)," you'll have seen me.

Marathon? As in over 26 miles? Damn, man, I get winded running to the bathroom in the morning!

I will be marching in the Torrance Armed Forces day parade. I will be wearing a red fez, red shirt, blue&white striped pants, brogans carrying an 1853 3-band Enfield. Louisiana Zouaves, 1861.

    Jeff,

Good luck!!! I'm just 35, but I had a total right hip replacement 7 years ago!! I'm a new person...you would never know I had it and I play tennis 3 days a week now and have for 5 years.

Do your best....that is all YOU can ask for!

  • Did you clear this with your doctor? Your body weight slamming down on your cartilage for 26 miles is just asking for trouble.

No worries about that. I did a 21 miler 3 weeks ago & the only thing that bothered me was fatigue, which since most of my mileage consists of long runs every week or so, is normal.

Good luck Jeff, you marathoners are hard to keep down for long. I use to rollerblade 16 miles a couple times a week on a local bike path to the beach, you may inspire me to dust them off. I better make sure my health insurance is paid up first...
