PQ is what a dealer tells you any coin he's selling you is. This switches to LQ when you're selling to him.

    Welcome FullHorn,

People sometimes use the TTT (to the top) notation to bring a thread back to the top of the page, for whatever reason. Perhaps they have asked a question that they would like more replies to. Sometimes they really enjoy a thread and want others, who might have missed it, to be able to see it, etc.

"PQ" stands for premium quality, for whatever grade holder the coin is currently in. WARNING - "PQ" is a subjective term and what one person says or thinks is PQ is not necessarily agreed upon by others. Some sellers refer to almost all of their coins as "PQ", whether they have any claims to that or not.

I will let others, who can explain it more fully, give you the scoop on VAM.

    Welcome!

VAM is an abbreviation for Van Allen and Mallis, the two guys who wrote the book on Morgan and Peace dollar die varieties. Each one identified is assigned a VAM number for that particular date. Some are desirable, some are as common as dirt. Don't assume a Morgan is rare because it has a VAM number, because they ALL do.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Welcome, fullhorn, from a fellow Buff collector (not registry, though: $$$$) and a Jeff collector ... plenty of intelligent numismatists around here, feel free to ask questions! image

Here`s a link about VAM`s. Yes, it is typically associated with Morgans. But it`s also associated with Peace Dollars. There`s other members here on the forums that can tell you more about VAM`s then I can. Not every Morgan collector collects by the VAM`s designation but, it`s still a popular to collect them.
