1909-s VDB real or not?

(just the toning). I've read posts from copper afficianados who were fairly adamant about the natural progression of tone on copper. They were quick to call a questionable coin AT. To me the coin does not look natural (or appealing) at all - just wanted some informed opinions.

Real or not?

easily-simulated overtones. you won't be able to tell if it's doctored or not, even in-hand

The scans/pics may not be representative of the true color. I'll let you know if I win it...image

In my experience, natural Copper toning can be many colors silver cannot. I have some really amazing copper toned pieces (in PCGS and NGC slabs). One of the defining tests will be to see if the toning is "floating" on the luster or seemingly painted on. It looks good to this point...bidding is going up, I may not last long as high bidder. Doug

I've got a few PCGS lincolns that look like that on at least some parts.

If that picture is an accurate color representation i'd be suprised if it crossed to PCGS or NGC. Does anyone think the new owner will send it in for "Cross at any grade"?

    Tom,

I won it and paid a hefty premium, IF it is not natural. If I get it and can tell myself it is AT (not the seller's fault as he is a reputable person) then I will send it in for his refund policy. If I think it is borderline or natural, then I will send it to NGC and cross at 60 or better since the price difference will be made up by being in an NGC holder.

I will keep you all posted if there is any interest.

Please post a nice picture of it when you get it. The pictures on ebay are so small. Why do sellers do that? It looks like a great coin. They should show it off.

Doug, a belated welcome to the Forum, but the way. I also like the ANACS 09 and think the color is real. I own a couple like this (albeit, ANACS, 1940's) and knowing the source of purchase and the way these will take on that >"tilt it just right and the colors of blue are blazing!"< attractive, REAL tone.

I'm looking forward to better photos when the coin arrives to you.
