Buffalo Nickel guys, please help with this MM

Check out the following auction. Does this look like an added mint mark to you? I'm not interested in buying the coin, I'm just interested in seeing if my eye for a questionable coin is justified. Thanks

It's tough to say without seeing the coin live. Years ago mint marks were added to Buffalo nickels by drilling a hole in the edge and embossing the mint mark from under the surface of the coin. The hole was then filled often leaving a tell-tale mark on the edge. There might be something on the edge of this coin. It’s hard to tell from the photo.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The only picture of a 23s that I can find is this one (and it's really difficult to see the MM):

That said - the bottom of the 'S' in the super-sized picture does not look 'right' to me...

I just emailed the seller to see if he would give a scan of the bottom edge of the coin. Let's see what happens. image

heres another funny one from this seller.
Does the last 1 in the date look slanted? Like maybe it was really a 7?
    who knows...

That one definitely looks funky also - notice that he didn't supply super-size pics of that puppy...

the shape actually looks funny, but there's an awful lot of distortion from the digi-pic.

The shape of the "S" on the Buffalo Nickel is correct.

(I have twelve of this date from G to EF)

Just received this from the seller.

Funny... we discussed the same thing.... but we feel that the mint mark is
part of the coin and not a altered coin.... but regardless here it is for
    you....PS our reserve is $149

The pics he sent are over 130K so I can't upload them here, but if anyone wants I can email them to you. No signs of tampering to me. But I'm not an expert. image
