Those mintmarked dates in the '20's were known for bad strikes. If those are actually uncirculated, which I doubt, they could not grade any better than MS-61, in my opinion.

I wouldn't say raped - but it has been very badly stretched....

  • I emailed the seller and he said that they work poorly struck, but MS nonetheless.

"Raped"? Man, that's a tad harsh don't you think? I wouldn't say that because one dealer may be promoting overgraded coins means that the whole integrity of MS goes down the tubes...if they were all in PCGS MS63/4 holders, I'd get a bit more excited about it. But even in that case, MS would still be MS.

  • SeattleSlammer, I think you missed the point. It's not whether the "MS" grade has gone down the tubes, it's whether this seller has "raped" the grade. What do you grade those coin?

Theyr'e lightly struck. MS60-MS61. All raw coins on Ebay use the ACG scale of grading!! imageimage

Ernie overgrades pretty consistently. Soft strikes notwithstanding, to call some of those Lincolns "MS" is absurd, in my opinon.

This has not stopped me from buying a coin or two from him in the past, though. He does have some nice stuff, and if you collect hard-to-find holed coins like I do, he's probably got the best selection out there (yes, some coins are desirable even with a hole in them). He sells some nice coins and exonumia, too. Just watch your wallet. The prices are often fairly steep.

Never had any problem with him, but I would take his grading with a grain of salt, and watch the bottom line. Otherwise, I wouldn't call him a crook. My transactions with him went smoothly. I don't think he's a bad guy, even if he does need glasses. image

imageOH PLEASE!!! I've got three Lincoln sets from '09 to current and would pass immediately on these. I've seen and bought raw coins in full wheats as fines to XF! They are not poorly struck and don't even come close to an AU grade by standards!! He may be a good seller and need glasses, but progressive tri-focals won't help these!!

  • These are all circulated coins.(the 1934??)..I have every one of these in at least XF that look better than these..I was infering that the dealer ( good guy or not) has these overgraded....And was using the term "MS" rather loosly...
  • Talking about rape. Did you know that canola used to be called rapeseed? They changed the name due to the poor publicity. Can you imagine an ad that hypes "100% pure rapeseed oil". OUCH

The 34 D would probably make grade. The rest don't come close...Ken

It all boils down to "opinions". I can't think of any reason why anybody would call a coin an MS if it weren't? Whoops...there is one...money!

There are billions of wheat cents. One can wait for another that they feel is graded properly.

That 34D is the only one that even appears to approach his grading. The rest are circulation worn.

Weak strike is probably a better way to describe worn if you are an eBay seller shilling copper coins.
