2001d sacagawea

hello esteemed group, yes another newbie joins the fray. i am a relatively new collector who has gleaned a boatload of information looking in on your conversations. i have been picking up circ morgans and slabbed sacagaweas. the first for me, the sacs to put away for the kids.

why is the 2001d sac so hard to find in a ms67? was the quality control at the denver mint so poor that year? would appreciate your input, even though i know many of you despise this coin. i just keep away from this squaw.

To answer your question, as far as condition goes, the 2001-D is currently a semi-key. The ultra-vast majority of them are MS64 or less, with just a few at gem and above. There are only a few handfuls of MS67s in the PCGS databanks, with only 5 at 68, and none above. The Denver mint just didn't do a good job that year.

I've combed tons of mint sets and official mint rolls, and have only had a small few at MS66 and above. The early strike 2003 D Sacagaweas appear to be pretty good, but it is still going to be tough to find lots of them that are both high grade and attractive (unless things change..)

If you have other Sacagawea questions or thoughts, please share them or PM me. I/we would be glad to help!
