Cladking- I understand that you may have been talking about a different coin, but the quote it drew from "pmh1nic" brings to light the best point of the entire thread. Even though it may have referenced another coin, pmh1nics post brought out a relevant perspective on the topic (intentional or not)image

<< <i>I'm not sure if even 1 day has gone by where you went without attacking someone here or on Ebay. >>

    DCAMFranklin,

I never initiate anything, I simply respond when attacked. It's just this thing I have about refusing to take crap off keyboard cowards and losers who hide in anonymity, and wouldn't have to balls to look me in the eye and talk their trash. Sound familiar?

Yeah, ok thanks. I guess your mad at me because I started a topic where not everyone agrees with you & many posted their opinions reflecting a broad spectrum of collecting. Some flamed, most didn't, most just stated an opinion that ranged from both extremes. Well, as stated in my first post, no offense was intended toward you as the topic was all in relation to the "insane" price you paid IN MY OPINION. Instead of being insulted, I would have been quite amazed that my method of collecting drew so much interest. You can't deny that was a huge price for a very recent modern and of course would be of great interest on this board. I guess you think all the board members that feel differently than you should "learn a few basics and become KNOWLEDGEABLE in the subject" too. Don't get upset because of so many differing opinions. There's a lot of people on this board & many times we must agree to disagree.

I am not mad about anything. There are several individuals on the Forums who make it there sole mission in life to Flame collectors Modern or Classic and who as far as I can tell never contribute anything POSITIVE to any of the forums.

I have just researched and read a lot of your comments that have been posted to the forums and most were positive except the ones about us Virginians and old TJ and his new nickel. Heck anything would be an Improvement image

As for the $2500 I paid for that NJ-P MS68 I still consider it a steal at that price and would do it all over again if I had to. image

When I say Knowledgeable I refer to My series the State Quarters which I consider myself quite knowledgeable about the Pops, Grading and the relative value of each coin in the set.I dont Flame anyone about what the registry coins they collect or the value of them as I said before I have had some very nice sets and at the time I knew what was what with them and now just a year later I dont know the up to date things that I would know if I was still collecting them.

For what Ed is doing (building a world class PCGS MS State quarter collection), IMHO, Ed is correct that he got a great deal on the NJ(p) quarter. And, isn't that all that matters?

The title of this thread is regrettable, because the author conceeds (I believe) that he is not well versed in the MS state quarter series. So, why would he conclude it is "insane", how could he conclude it is "insane"? I can tell you this - if I found some auction on a neat Large cent or half cent and posted a thread stating the buyer just paid an insane price, I had better know my series, or I would be laughed out of here by the authorities in that field - right? Yet, we see it as "fair game" for even the most unknowledgeable to take "cheap shots" so long as it is directed at a modern series and a modern coin. This is the stigma against modern coins that still rears its ugly head, although admittedly less and less with every passing year.

As I have repeatedly stated, my personal buying choices are well split between modern and classic coins, but, I do know about as much as anyone regarding high grade MS state quarters. A New Jersey quarter in true MS68 grade is a very scarce coin and one of the 5% "cream" modern coins I was talking about earlier that I would buy without hesitation (for resale, as I do not personally collect the series in finest known grade).

  • It's alright wondercoin, it's just a money issue some people think it's alot of money but so is $50,000 for a classic coin. Don't like the price don't buy it I say. I like all coins and I'am glad people like you are here providing a source of high grade moderns to collectors. image

  • << <i>I will buy nearly all PCGS-MS67 - MS69 STATE QUARTERS SIGHT-UNSEEN - just PM me. >>

Please understand this is NOT a slam on anyone or what they like to collect. But I thought that the quarter and comment in this post was germane to this discussion.

Android: The last lot of VT(d) quarters in PCGS-MS67 I bought (around 40 coins I recall) cost me somewhere around $12-$15/coin. I would still buy more in that range and I am not surprised by the fact someone plucked a beautiful VT(d) out of change to pull an MS67. Heck, the UNIQUE 1976 NO S PROOF IKE DOLLAR (produced by the mint in 1974) I won at auction for a customer for nearly $40,000 recently was purportedly plucked out of a cash register in Wash DC in 1976 and was thereafter slabbed PCGS-PR66!

Now, tell me someone plucked a GA(p) quarter out of change and slabbed an MS67 and I'll tell you it didn't happen!! image

Be careful the millions and millions of GA-P State Quarters out there waiting to be slabbed MS67 it could happen but I would bet the farm against it. image

Hell you could almost say the same about trying to pull one from a mint set!
