  • Adrian,

You give me an idea !! We should start to publish a tabloid called "The Numismatic Enquirer." It will be filled with tales of mud and jello wrestling in the PCGS forums; fistfights and name calling on the bourse floor; hype, deceit and outright corruption. There would be columns exposing the exploits of doctors, dealers, and crackout boys. There would be up-to-the minute reports from auction floor sessions.

We would publish hidden-camera pictures of Board members, or invite some of our racier members to install webcams with live video feeds from their homes !!! We would attract major high-end advertisers like Accugrade, and interview them to get the truth about whizzing, thumbing, and fingering.

We could publish advertisements for a mail-in service where members can send in their pocket change, and we'll submit it for encapsulation in UCGS plastic (our own "Unprofessional Coin Grading Service" complete with conflicts of ownership and interest). We'll post the coins in the UCGS Registry, and then sell them back to the submitters for $500 each !!! Due to the many AG and Poor coins certified by us, our service will be known in the trade as "Ugly Coin Grading Service," pronounced "UGS." "Buy back your own rare certified pocket change for several thousand times face value !!!!"

Why, I could just go on and on !!!

Anybody else have any suggestions for our tabloid or our grading service?

TomB's thread regarding the Heritage capped bust quarter with questionable toning, originally started across the street but linked here was a good one. Heritage decided to modify the description of that coin as a result of Tom's inquiry.

  • In the Looks like Miss Lucy is Cheating on Ben thread, Lucy comes out and says
"Warning to all the Merc Heads..... When I finish with Frankies....... There is gonna be a huge shakup in the Winged
Liberty Registry...... And there's gonna be something "Hep" about it!"
It looks like maybe in the future she is going to be throwing all of her Franklins to the curb and might actually start collecting another series.

  • Adrian - heres the latest:

    1. Everyone is going to sell all of their coins over the next 3 months in order to be fully funded for the upcoming John Ford auction(s). At which time, similar to the 79 - 80 Garrett sales, people will spend so much money for some coins that 23 years hence they will still be buried.

    2. I posted a picture of a coin PCGS clearly botched, calling into question all grading and the validity of all slabs, and no cared.

    3. Lucy slammed some guy for doing something I didn't quite catch.

Your pretty much up to speed now.

We should start to publish a tabloid called "The Numismatic Enquirer."

Maybe you should offer to write a column for the Coin Demon Newsletter, a free publication distributed to dealers at most Long Beach shows.

    Here's their link.

My favorite for the last week is Mr Eureka's installment tale of a dealer who thought he got a rip that turned into a dog.

By the time it is through Mr Eureka wants it to be the mosted posted thread in all US Coin Forum historyimage

Hey Joe! Glad you liked the half.

I tried to buy that 1797 dollar a while back but never could reach a deal with the owner. It is indeed very cool and very rare. Great toning.

    Hey Adrian,

You missed a good ebay "mystery box" auction. They guy said there was somewhere between 5 and fifty ounces of gold in a safe. Starting bid was 6500. I called him on it and he told me that it was an auction for a local veterans group. He also said there was 27 ounces of gold in the safe.

You can probably find the thread by typing in "Addendum" in the search box. I started the addendum and is labeled something like
"This is getting interesting, addendum to mystery box thread" Amazing....

Keep an eye on a thread that I am TTTing from time to time. You might have some info...

    Be good,
