This is the email text that I got from the seller of the "mystery box". What do you all think?
I wrote:

ebay... There are alot of people watching how you handle this too by the way. <i>
They wrote back:
<i>Just so you, and those mystery watchers you speak of, know there 27 ounces
of gold.So, as you can see my starting bid was very fare. However, because
of you and others, who keep me-mailing me, who think everyone on e-bay is a
crook I will stop this auction. The coins are going to a fund for fallen
vets here in my home town. I did not want them to begin with. They have been
nothing but trouble for me, and money is not an issue for me in life. It is
sad however, that e-bay has gotton to the point where something which could
have been fun and profitable for both parties has become a mud slinging
contest between coin sellers.<i>
My response:
<i>If that is the case, I apologize. I am active duty military myself. My only question is, if you wanted to raise the most money, why not sell the 27 ounces for spot gold price? You would have made the veterans much happier and more money than 6500. It is sad that ebay has this reputation but the auction looks suspicious.<i>
So, now I feel bad. Should I say 10 Hail Mary's and 20 Our Father's?

Mystery Boxes can be fun at garage sales or your local coin club meeting. I don't see the fun in a several thousand dollar "Mystery...I hope I can rip you off... Box".

Speculation and outright accusations based on little or no proof seem to be the theme for a bunch of folks on this board when it comes to eBay.

This is eBay. Definitely guilty until proven innocent.
Agreed, eBay is guilty until proven innocent. Otherwise, you're the one feeling guilty 'cause you ripped yourself off....
I also find (although in this case minimal) misspellings and poor grammar to be giant warning signs.
