I hate the PATHETIC US Mint!

Our coin designs are ugly and stale but the real problem is quality.

I recently bought an unsearched tube of 20 Silver Eagles straight from the "green monster" box. Every single coin had contact marks. These are brand spanking new, never out of the tube coins. Why can't they ALL be MS 68/69? Why must the US Mint beat up and destroy uncirculated coins? Why pay a premium price for Silver Eagles when you can buy other bullion much closer to spot that doesn't look like garbage?

I've bought 10 proof sets and every single proof set has coins with haze, stains, wax/plastic spots?, all sorts of garbage. You send 'em back, and they send you more damaged goods.

Compare the quality control of US Mint products to Canada, England, China, Austria, Australia and prepare to be depressed.

I too receive poor quality product from the mint from time to time. Most recently..SAEs 40 of them contact marks and all. While I realize the business strikes are not supposed to be flawless on every strike I would have thought that one of fourty would have been very pristine. My expectations are too high. I have not quit collecting US mint product but I have cut back and darkside coinage arives in much better condition.

    Kind regards,

I have to agree, The quality of the Mints products is detestable. I used to buy a lot from them but have recently stopped totally. Conservatively speaking, it seems 1 out of 4 products (single coins to mint sets) develop some kind of problem, be it haze, spots, or contact marks. I just don't have this problem with the old coins. They are off my "do business with list!"

I too was getting poor quality coins from the Mint.

I was trying to get a couple of each new Proof and Mint set, but that gave the Mint so many chances to send poor quality coins that I only get one copy via subscription (that way I can get a sample before my dealer even can) and wait and purchase additional sets from my dealer (that way, I can preview the coins before I purchase them).

I got some 2002 Uncirc. Mint Sets that are missing one of the state quarters. The number of coins is correct, but
there's two Mississippi's and I think Indiana is not there.

None of those coins are of remarkable quality.

Mint State ASEs are not available directly from the mint. The tubes are not sealed so how do you know that the coins are fresh from the mint and not searched and handled by someone else.

As to proof eagles, commems, and sets, I have always recieved these in pristine condition. I have only had two out of 60 coins directly from the mint not grade 69 at PCGS.
