I'd love to say that I own a few, but I've yet to find any that I like AND can afford.

    ConstellatioCollector:

    First of all.......awesome Nova

Secondly, please sell it to me.

Awesome!! My guess on the grade is MS-63. Incredible.
  • I will consider it once I have the finest known (PCGS graded) of each. I currently have 4. I need 2 more! Have any for sale?

Jim, enough kidding around. I realllly want and need a nice uncirculated Nova. Sell me one or else I will call David Hall and have you expelled from the forum. Think I am joking? Just ask Russ.
  • NumisEd,

I just attempted to have the MS64 (Garrett "one pictured") Nova upgraded to a higher grade, since it had a green label and I had an extra $50.00 burning a hole in my pocket, and PCGS turned me down. Do you believe it? That is one quality coin!!! I compared it to my other Novas that were MS63 and it far out graded them. Either the MS63s were misgraded or the MS64 should be upgraded.

PCGS is funny with early copper, especially colonials. Don't worry about that. You have one Heck of a Nova there and I don't like you because of it! image
  • NumisEd,

I do have a 1785 MS63BN Pointed Ray that I might be able to part with for the right price. I own 2 at present with a PCGS pop of 2/0.

Are you kidding me? Were did you find all of those killer Novas? Dang. Nice stuff. Do you collect other colonials? I will PM you later. Ed
  • I collect them as they come up! I won't let you know who I know because I'm still looking for the final 2 and I really don't want the competition. Plus, I have spent a few bucks in order to get them!

    As for other colonials....

I have a few to mention.

    1773 1/2 Penny Virginia, period MS64RD
    1792-4? Lancaster (Kentucky) Cent MS65RD

The rest are below MS mint state.

I have a Fugio that isn't anything special, but it's one of my favorites. The history behind that coin is so cool.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Here's my favorite colonial coin that is in my collection: a small size Pine Tree Shilling. I also have an Oak Tree Two Pence.

I emailed you at your sevenoften address.

  • I have the world's only hammered copper New England 1 pence! It's on one of those crudely hammered copper planchets ( kinda like thise 17th century Spanish coppers if you're familiar with those ) with "NE" on the obverse ( though its at the bottom, not the top of the coin ) and a crude "I" in an uneven square indention on the reverse ( this one is properly at the top ).

Surely it has to be a 19th Century or maybe early 20th Century fantasy piece, but I like to dream that it's a 17th Century contemporary counterfeit. I'd feel more confident of that if there were any kind of patina or veridgris on it.
  • BillJones,

Beautiful coins. I could only dream to ever own any of those!!!!!!!!!

Can you add a picture of your MS65 RD Kentucky token? I've seen a couple of these in that grade and I think they are stunning coins!

I also saw a Talbot in a high-grade RD holder at a FUN show that was equally beautiful. I like the Kentucky tokens in virtually any grade but the Talbot never appealed to me until I saw the very high-grade example.

P.S.: I also own a MS64 RD Virginia 1/2 Penny, but I don't think that coin is as neat as your Kentucky token. So, any chance of a picture? Please?....

This is one of the nicest kentucky tokens I have ever seen. It's a PCGS MS-64, Brown and the surfaces are awlsome! This piece is available. PM me if you are interested.

  • I'll have to take an image of the Kentucky Token. I find it very difficult to get the right color of these RD grade coins. I'll attempt to do so tonight and post it!

Aren't those Kentucky tokens pretty! Bill, your token looks really nice and I agree with your assessment of awesome surfaces. I'm seeing details in the sleeve and on the stars that I don't ever recall seeing before. And ConstellatioCollector, isn't it amazing that your coin has stayed red for over 200 years. What nice coins!

  • It amazes me how the RD coins have been taken care for. If you want to see a killer MS66RD coin go to the "Buy, Sell or Trade Coin" forum and take a glance at Singapore's 1795 Talbot Token. Now that is a beautifully preserved coin! I would love to own it!!!

Sorry for the big, dark, crummy picture of my "Colonial trio"

Now, mind you, mine aren't Redbook "colonial" varieties, but they are colonials.

They are not stunning high grade pieces, either- some would call them ugly- but they came out of the dirt beneath my feet. The 1782 Hibernia, while not a valuable coin in the least, is possibly my favorite detector find. Sentimentally, it's more valuable to me than the 1805 gilt proof Hibernia in my icon.

  • LM, I'll take them! They are always welcome in MY collection!
