please grade this bust quarter-thanks for the input!!

I'm having a heck of a time deciding if I want to keep this. It's a browning-2 variety. According to the PCGS book, Brown & Dunn, the ANA grading book, and photograde it appears to grade a Fine. What do you think?

thanks in advance!!

I say a low end VF from the scan

VF-25, but I would need to examine the coin to determine whether or not that toning was added quickly, or naturally over time.

    From the scan vf.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • my guess is the toning was over time knowing the dealer I bought it from and by the wat is creeps off the rim area towards the center.

At least VF by wear; worth more because of attractive toning and eye-appeal.
  • From the scan the coin looks to have been badly cleaned and toned. Fine money is OK, but no reason to pay over that. You can get that
exact tone job by putting a dime on the coin before you tone it.

  • Looks like a F or low VF grade.

    hey mact, much better digi-pic.

    it's a very nice, original vf-30.

I'm a little queered by the toning pattern. I'm no expert for sure, and I mostly like it but if it purports to be album toning, wouldn't the rims be toned as well? Seems a bit splotchy on portions of the actual raised rimes themselves. Also, I know circulated coins tone, but isn't that a fairly intense amount of toning for a well circulated coin?

the toning is very appropriate for album tone. more typical of circ silver to tone that way - high-grade will have color that extends further toward the centers

This is album toning but I must respectfully disagree with Dorkkarl... from the scan this coin looks as if it was cleaned 50-65 years ago and is not original. However, I do agree with Dorkkarl that it is a VF30 grade.

VF-25, cleaned long ago, probably with baking soda (a mild abrasive), and probably stored in an album that created the ring toning.

This coin is OK given what most quarters of this type look like in VF these days.

can't disagree w/ those who say it's been cleaned. agree it would have been LONG ago though.

sentiments echoed: it doesn't matter. this is a nice coin
